CEO of Sartorius, Joachim Kreuzburg, met with Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul on the 24th to discuss cooperation measures related to investment implementation.
Prior to this, Sartorius signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) with the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Health and Industry, and Incheon Metropolitan City on the 2nd. Sartorius submitted a $100million letter of investment(LOI) to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority last year, and signed an MOU to build production facilities such as biopharmaceutical raw materials in Songdo, Incheon, by investing a total of $300 million over the next three years.
The meeting was organized to discuss detailed implementation measures as CEO Joachim Kreuzburg visited Korea.
Sartorius Korea started businesses in Korea in 1990 and is building cooperative relationships with several domestic biopharmaceutical companies such as Samsung Biologics and Celltrion.
CEO Joachim Kreuzburg said, "The rapid growth of the Korean bio-industry, the possibility of business growth following bold investment by companies and governments, and Korea's sound export environment have influenced investment decisions. And I hope that Sartorius and the Korean bio-industry can grow together through this investment implementation."
Regarding specific measures, he said, “We will support Korea to become a global bio-manufacturing hub to reduce global vaccine inequality. We will directly contribute to these efforts by investing in Songdo, work with local partners to transfer technology, and build human resources through R&D and education projects in the field of biopharmaceutical production.”
Minister Moon said, "As the Korean government is concentrating its policy capabilities on stabilizing the supply chain of key items along with the leap into a global vaccine hub, Sartorius' investment in raw and subsidiary material production facilities will greatly contribute to this movement. We are planning to do our best to support their investments to be carried out smoothly."
CEO Joachim Kreuzburg met with Minister of Health and Welfare, Kwon Deok-cheol, at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul on the 25th to discuss ways to cooperate in investment in Korea.
The meeting was held to discuss the follow-up progress and future plans of Sartorius, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Incheon City's Investment Business Agreement to Build a Global Vaccine Hub, which was signed on the 2nd on the occasion of CEO Joachim Kreuzberg's visit to Korea.
Minister Kwon emphasized that "Sartorius' decision to invest $300million will serve as an opportunity to broaden the horizon of cooperation with many Korean vaccine manufacturers in addition to Samsung Biologics and Celltrion." Minister Kwon added, "If Sartorius builds production facilities and research institutes in Korea, it will be able to serve as a forward production base and export base for Sartorius covering the Asian region."
CEO Joachim Kreuzburg said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the Korean government and companies for their active support for Sartorius, including the Ministry of Welfare and Industry, and the efforts of the Korean government and companies to become a global vaccine hub.
Meanwhile, the government has established a 'K-Global Vaccine Hub Strategy' and is nurturing the industry. Following the attraction of investment from Sartorius and Cytiva, the government plans to continue activities to attract investment in vaccines and vaccine raw materials and equipment.
